roving weinmeisters

A dialogue between individuals of the Weinmeister persuasion, be they defectors to the Rahn family or late additions to the fold, or Weinmeisters by marriage or sheer jealousy.

Meanwhile in Vermont...

I have started far too many seeds in anticipation of a BIG garden. There is still 3ish feet of snow in our yard, but I am gleefully watching it melt as the temps go up and the precip turns to rain. Dear Weinmeisters, I am a true devotee to Spring these days. Come mud and therefore impassable roads, Spring is welcome chez Rahn.

I drove to Michigan about a week ago (in the fabulous Doris DuBois the Yaris) to be with Stephanie and Camille, who you might remember from my wedding. (They were both bridesmaids). We had a grand time talking and making things out of fused glass. Camille has a glass kiln, and it turns out that fusing glass is a pretty good way to indulge one's love of color and breaking glass. Some interesting items resulted, but I don't have good pictures. I did, however, take a really good picture of the leafy greens Stephanie sauteed. Enjoy.

Pete's band has been gaining gigs and fans. Check out their website. They're playing at Higher Ground on April 12 at a benefit for Doctors Without Borders. We're excited! He's also playing tomorrow night at the dearly loved Radio Bean, where you can get an ounce of local flavor with your homemade chai. His cigar box guitar, "Sweepea" is pictured, as is a jam session in the brewery.

So, between Pete's homemade cigar box guitar, my seeds, a good dose of leafy greens and old friends, we're feeling good and ready for spring. Hopefully our next update will include a brimming Winooski River indicative of the rapid and complete snowmelt I hope to witness IMMEDIATELY!

From the season of the slide to the season of the slush to the season of the sludge...but then comes the green...and pollen...then you are trying to find new uses for the 50 bushels of zucchini you picked this morning. I love gardens. They keep you. (We will provide a zucchini recipe book.) Posted from the land of pavement and lights.

Yeah to homegrown vegetables!!! After tomato and squash issues last year, I was going to severely pare down my veggie garden this year, but I'm getting the itch again.... It never seems like you could possibly have too many homegrown tomatoes, but then August rolls around and I find myself strategically stashing plates and baskets of tomatoes and squash in public places. No matter how bleak the local produce section is in March, six tomato vines and six hills of assorted squash probably ARE overkill.... Sigh.... This year I'm taking a new turn: Blueberry bushes and strawberries went in a few weeks ago. Pie anyone?

Thanks for the update from Vermont! I've missed you guys!
